Especially for young performers, websites are a must!! Eye-catching, easy to navigate sites that high light your musical abilities and your concert schedule as well as your personality are crucial to building a presence. Running a very close second are myspace pages that give you an added audience which will include many people who will never hear about you otherwise. I can't tell you how many performances I have booked (even prior to having management) simply because of my website. Immediately, a website speaks to your professionalism and your relevance. Yesterday's business cards (which you still need to have) are today's websites. Now if you're really ready for a revolution, post your performances on YouTube! Though clips of your performances should be available on your website and/or myspace page as well.

Also consider creating e-brochures that can be sent to presenters at no cost to you. Use these first, or colorful ads you can send as attachments before you waste money on sending to presenters that have never heard from you. A reliable source from one of the nation's great symphonies once told me that over 90% of the paper promos he receives goes straight into the trash. If a presenter likes the email or e-brochurse you send, then he can request printed materials and recordings (or he can download them from your website. Told you the website was important!

Yes I agree websites are a must for musicians in this day and age. Plus there is much greater possibility for more people to hear your music. I've made my own free sheet music website: http://www.sheetmusicfox.com

It's also important to make sure your site is linked up to others, in order to make yourself more prominent on the web.

Agreed! Websites are a must to market yourself as a performer, composer, and teacher. Putting up a site, though, is only the beginning. Driving traffic to your site is where the work begins.
